If you have a problem that you are having trouble resolving, we would love to help you tackle the situation.
At Dulwich Hill Chiropractic & Therapeutic Centre, we believe it is important to be versatile. In that respect, we use a variety of different techniques to get you, the patient, results. Whether you require a low force treatment that doesn’t use manual adjustment or manipulation, or require a high degree of force, we can cater to you.
What to expect on your first visit
Your initial consultation is specifically designed to cater for your needs. Employing a number of procedures, we can assist in getting rid of that nagging ache/pain, rehabilitate a previous injury, or simply assist you in maintaining a healthy mind, body and lifestyle. One of our professional chiropractors will go through different aspects of your history and lifestyle in order to pinpoint external influences which may affect you adversely. They will then go through a range of individual specific examinations in order to further analyse your present metaphysical condition. Through this assessment, one of our chiropractors will be able to determine exactly what chiropractic techniques are appropriate to assist you in reaching your goals.
Our Chiropractic Approach
Our Chiropractors apply a variety of techniques depending on the treatment and results the patient requires. Listed below are just a few.
Diversified
Diversified technique (DT) is the most commonly used adjustment technique by chiropractors. Like many chiropractic and osteopathic manipulative techniques, Diversified is characterised by a high velocity, low amplitude thrust. Diversified is considered the most generic chiropractic manipulative technique and is differentiated from other techniques in that its objective is to restore proper movement and alignment of spine and joint dysfunction.
Activator
The Activator Method Chiropractic Technique is a chiropractic treatment method and device used as an alternative to manual adjustment of the spine or joints. The device is Characterised as a mechanical force manual assisted (MFMA) instrument generally regarded as a softer chiropractic technique.
The activator produces enough force to move the vertebrae but not enough to cause injury. It is great for all patients but is used in DHCTC particularly for those patients who are under the age of 12, our older community, or for those patients who are highly anxious.
Thompson Technique
This technique is an advanced form of spinal adjustment. It requires the use of a shock absorbing spring action in the chiropractic table which allows for a low force adjustment to the specified area. Although it requires only a low force it is very effective in achieving great results with spinal and pelvic alignment.
Bowens
The Bowen Technique is a unique form of muscle therapy which involves a gentle stlye of rolling massage, with only very subtle contact. The ‘rolls’ tighten or loosen off muscles depending on the way the move is conducted. The Bowen Technique is catagorised as a style of massage, and is used to release areas of built-up tension in the muscles especially during an injury or acute pain. Our clients describe a feeling of relaxation and control.
Bowen Technique addresses the muscles by stimulating certain reflexes and proprioceptors in a particular way that heightens the sensory awareness of the body. This usually leads to a sensation such as heat release, tingling and an increased awareness of the areas being worked on. Through increasing this sensory awareness it enables the body to be more responding to the self healing process.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the procedure of inserting and directing needles into specified points on the body to relieve pain or for general wellbeing.
Advanced Biostructural Correction
ABC is centered around the idea that poor posture, caused by anterior displacement (subluxation) of vertebrae, causes compensatory misalignments that predispose the spinal cord to injury from excessive stretching of the meninges (the membrane that surrounds the brain and spinal cord). Vertebrae that get displaced forward get stuck because there is no muscle to pull them back and that other vertebrae compensate for this by twisting. Refer to website: www.advbiostructuralcorr.com
Dry Needling
Dry Needling also known as Intra Muscular Stimulation (IMS) is a process which involves the insertion of acupuncture needles into muscles in order to alleviate pain and stimulate healing. The needle penetrates the skin and treats underlying muscular trigger points for the management of neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments.
Kinesio Taping
Kinesio Taping gives support and stability to your joints and muscles without affecting circulation and range of motion. It is also used for Preventive Maintenance, Edema, and to treat pain. Kinesio Taping is a technique based on the body’s own natural healing process. This Kinesio Taping exhibits its efficacy through the activation of neurological and circulatory systems. This method basically stems from the science of Kinesiology, hence the name “Kinesio”. Muscles are not only attributed to the movements of the body but also control the circulation of venous and lymph flows, body temperature, etc. Therefore, the failure of the muscles to function properly induces various kinds of symptoms.
